My Darling Child: Letters From A Mother With A Broken Heart

This blog is a collection of letters I am writing to my children. Not too long ago a friend of mine passed away from a surprise illness, leaving behind two beautiful little girls. Another friend was sent to the hospital with a respiratory attack, but thankfully, she survived to continue parenting her three children.

Who can tell what will happen down the road? Will we be around to see our children graduate college, get married, and have our grandchildren? There are simply no guarantees in this life.

As a woman who has – by the grace of Christ – survived child abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and to this day endures multiple dysfunctional relationships, there are some things that I desperately want to tell my little ones, but which they can’t possibly understand right now. There are some things that are too important to leave unsaid, and yet God’s plans for our lives may not stretch beyond tomorrow.

With this in mind, I am writing this blog, so that someday – whether I am around or not – my children will read it, learn from it, be comforted by it, and know that their Mommy loves them.

I am also writing this blog for you, my reader, because like me you live in a world of pain. My hope is that through my letters you might know that you are not alone – that there is hope even in the darkest situation – and take comfort.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV
